Senator Levin was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 1978. He was on the Detroit City Council from 1969 to 1977, serving as President of the Council from 1973 to 1977. He is Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee and also serves on the Governmental Affairs Committee, where he chairs the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, and on the Small Business Committee and the Select Committee on Intelligence.
