Carnegie Mellon established ISRI as a center of excellence for long-term interdisciplinary fundamental research, apprenticeship-based education and training, and international collaborations to address the challenge of designing, developing, integrating, validating, and maintaining practical, large-scale, high-quality software-intensive systems.
