McConnell, Counsel of Record Founded in 1961, the Christian Legal Society (CLS) is a nationwide association of lawyers, law students, law professors, and judges who follow the Christian faith. University chapters of the organization — which sponsor lectures, provide transportation to religious services, and organize other events — are required to meet CLS’s national membership requirements. Chapter meetings are open to all, but officers and voting members are required to sign a statement of faith. Officers must also pledge to “abstain from acts of a sinful nature,” which, according to CLS, include premarital sex, adultery, and homosexual conduct….
