Recent Action on Class Action Lawsuits
The 108th Congress (2002_2004) was the fourth consecutive Congress to consider, but failed to enact, class action lawsuit legislation. A bill was considered on the Senate floor in July 2004, but Majority Leader Bill Frist (TN-R) withdrew the legislation to prevent Democrats from attempting to attach unrelated amendments on issues ranging from a minimum wage increase to global warming and immigration. Recent Senate Action Senator Charles Grassley (IA-R) introduced S. 5, the Class Action Fairness Act, on January 25, 2005.
