Representative Rangel, of the Fifteenth District of New York, was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1970. He was an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York from 1959 to 1964, Legal Counsel to the New York City Housing and Redevelopment Board Neighborhood Conservation Bureau, from 1963 to 1968, and a member of the New York Assembly from 1966 to 1970.
