John H. Weston, Counsel of RecordPap’s A.M. was the corporate owner of a strip club called Kandyland, which operated in Erie, Pennsylvania. On September 24, 1994, the city passed an ordinance outlawing public nudity, which prohibited dancers at Kandyland from dancing completely nude. Pap’s A.M. filed suit against the city, alleging a violation of its First Amendment freedom of expression and requesting monetary compensation for damages. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court sided with Pap’s A.M., striking down the law. Since then, Kandyland has gone out of business, although Pap’s A.M. still exists as a corporation.
