On January 27, 2017, just one week after being sworn in as president, Donald Trump ordered that all citizens of seven majority-Muslim nations be banned from entering the United States for 90 days. The move was widely viewed as the fulfillment of a campaign promise to enact a “Muslim ban” that originally aimed to block the entry of anyone practicing the Islamic faith.
