Honorable Richard Neal

Rep. Neal represents the 1st Congressional District of Massachusetts. He was elected to Congress in 1988. Prior to his career in Washington, he worked as a high school teacher and was the mayor of the city of Springfield. He is the current chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, which has jurisdiction over issues such as tax policy, health care and trade. He is also the at-large whip for the House Democrats and the Democratic leader of the Friends of Ireland Caucus.
