Recent Action by Congress on Electronic Cigarettes
In April 2014, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a long-anticipated proposal that would extend the agency’s authority to regulation of the fast-growing electronic cigarette industry. The proposal drew more than 80,000 comments from public health advocates, e-cigarette supporters, and others, which the agency is currently considering. Meanwhile, some Members of Congress, concerned about the potential dangers of the product, have introduced legislation to control its marketing and use. FDA “Deeming” Rule.
