1964 — Smoking and Health: Report of the Advisory Committee to the Surgeon General is published. The first of its kind, the report shows a link between cigarette smoking and cancer. 1965 — The Federal Cigarette Labeling and Advertising Act requires a health warning on all cigarette packs. 1967 — The Federal Trade Commission rules that broadcasters who air cigarette ads must also air smoking-prevention messages. 1970 — The Public Health Cigarette Smoking Act bans cigarette ads on radio and television.
