Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz

The United States is a strategic and military ally of Turkey through their membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). The United States also used Turkish bases during the Gulf War. Paul Wolfowitz was sworn in as Deputy Secretary of Defense on March 2, 2001. Prior to that, he was dean and professor of international relations at the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University.
