Senator Mikulski was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1986. She served on the Baltimore City Council from 1971 to 1976 and in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1976 to 1986. She sits on the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee, where she chairs the Subcommittee on Retirement and Aging; the Appropriations Committee, where she chairs the Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, and Science; and the Select Committee on Intelligence.
