The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change estimates an increase of 1.4 to 5.8 degrees centigrade in surface temperature over the current century, a rise that is without precedent in the last 10,000 years. Changes in this range will affect the intensity and frequency of extreme weather events, including floods, droughts, heat waves, and storms. Hence, disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation are intimately linked.
