Representative Dingell, of the Sixteenth District of Michigan, was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1955. He served as Wayne County (Michigan) Assistant Prosecuting Attorney from 1953 to 1955. From 1981 to 1995, he chaired the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
