State Efforts to Enforce Immigration Law
The topic of illegal immigration in Arizona became the center of a political firestorm in April 2010, when Governor Jan Brewer signed into law Arizona SB 1070, which allows law enforcement officials to request the immigration documents of detained individuals that they suspect are in the State illegally. This was not the first time Arizona had passed controversial legislation relating to Federal immigration law, however.
