1952 -International Planned Parenthood is established with headquarters in London and birth control pioneer Margaret Sanger as its first president. 1954 – The First World Population Conference, organized by the United Nations, is held in Rome to exchange scientific information on population variables, their determinants, and their consequences. 1960 – The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approves oral contraceptives.
