Lebanon has been a member of the UN since October 24, 1945. Its two-year term as an elected member of the UN Security Council expires on December 31, 2011. Nawaf Salam has served as Lebanon’s Permanent Representative to the UN since July 2007. The following is excerpted from Ambassador Salam’s statement during UN Security Council debate on June 9, 2010.
