Russia has been a member of the UN since October 24, 1945. It is a permanent member of the UN Security Council. Vitaly I. Churkin has served as Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN since January 1988. The following is excerpted from Ambassador Churkin’s statement during UN Security Council debate on June 9, 2010. Russia voted in favor of Resolution 1929 on the basis of its consistent principled position regarding the Iranian nuclear issue.
