U.S. Aid to Egypt
On the one-year anniversary of the start of the revolution that resulted in the ouster of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, continued U.S. military aid to Egypt may be in jeopardy because of the treatment of American nongovernment organizations (NGOs) working in that country. In December, the Egyptian military raided three American pro-democracy groups ― the National Democratic Institute, the International Republican Institute (IRI), and Freedom House ― claiming that they were violating Egyptian law and did not have proper permits.
