In the 2024 presidential election, more than 47 million Americans voted by mail, accounting for nearly 30% of all ballots cast. In 45 states, at least some types of ballots received by election officials after Election Day are allowed to be counted in the final results. Last term, the U.S. Supreme Court considered a case that would have changed this system dramatically.
