Representative Hastings, of the Twenty-Third District of Florida, was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1992. He served as a Broward County (Florida) Circuit Court Judge from 1977 to 1979 and as a Federal Judge with the U.S. District Court from 1979 to 1989. He is a member of the Rules Committee, where he is the Ranking Minority Member on the Subcommittee on Technology and the House. He also serves on the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
