Senator Warner was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 1978.He was Undersecretary of the U.S. Navy from 1969 to 1972 and Secretaryof the U.S. Navy from 1972 to 1974. From 1974 to 1976, he wasDirector of the American Revolution Bicentennial Committee. Heserves on the Armed Forces Committee and as Chairman of the SeaPower Subcommittee within that committee.
