Director General Mohamed ElBaradei
The International Atomic Energy Agency is an autonomous organization under the United Nations founded in 1957 as an intergovernmental forum for scientific and technical cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear technology. Through its inspection program, it is responsible for verifying that nations comply with their requirements under nonproliferation agreements and treaties. The Agency has 134 member states and is based in Vienna, Austria. Mohamed ElBaradei has been Director General of the IAEA since December 1, 1997.
