Boosting Embassy Security
Shortly before the August recess, the House Foreign Affairs Committee and Senate Foreign Relations Committee approved legislation to increase security at U.S. embassies considered to be most vulnerable to attacks. The House bill, H.R. 2848, introduced by Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Edward Royce (CA-R), would authorize $15.6 billion for an overhaul of embassy security procedures and require the Department of State and the Department of Defense to develop joint plans for military deployments in emergencies.
