Major Provisions of H.R. 1270
H.R. 1270, the Nuclear Waste Policy Act of 1997, revises the Nuclear Waste Policy Act of 1982, as follows:Intermodal Transfer H.R. 1270 requires the intermodal transfer (railtoheavy haultruck) of spent nuclear fuel and highlevel radioactive waste pending direct rail access to the interim storage facility site. It requires the Secretary of Energy to use rail transportation to meet the requirements of this Act if direct rail access becomes available to the interim storage facility site.
