On November 20, 2014, Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson issued a directive to the immigration agencies under his purview that they would deprioritize deportation proceedings for the roughly 4 million parents of U.S. citizens who are permanent resident aliens currently living in the U.S. without proper immigration documentation.
