Lois Puzey is the mother of Peace Corps Volunteer Kate Puzey, who was murdered while serving in Benin. The following is excerpted from Puzey’s May 11, 2011, testimony before the House Committee on Foreign Affairs hearing on the Peace Corps at 50. Kate was a deeply compassionate, talented, upbeat person with a gift for understanding others. She was twice elected student council president in high school and graduated at the top of her class.
