The legality of abortion has been one of the most hotly contested issues before the U.S. Supreme Court since the procedure was legalized across the Nation in the landmark 1973 case Roe v. Wade. Since then, there have been numerous attempts to regulate the procedure, short of an outright ban, at both the State and Federal level, with mixed judicial results.
