Senator Collins was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 1996. She was a Legislative Aide to then-U.S. Senator Bill Cohen (R) from 1975 to 1987, Staff Director of the Senate Oversight of Government Management Subcommittee from 1987 to 1992, New England Regional Director for the U.S. Small Business Administration in 1992, and Maine Deputy Treasurer in 1993.
