Paid Parental Leave
President Trump’s proposed budget request to Congress included a plan for six weeks of paid parental leave that would cover fathers and new adoptive parents, as well as mothers. According to the Administration’s proposed budget, “States would be required to provide six weeks of parental leave, and the proposal gives States broad latitude to design and finance the program.” Currently, only California, Rhode Island, and New Jersey offer the benefit, which is financed through temporary disability insurance programs.
