On August 18, 2011, the leaders of Germany, France, and the United Kingdom issued a joint statement on alleged human rights violations in Syria. The following are excerpts from that statement. The Syrian authorities have ignored the urgent appeals made over recent days by the UN Security Council, numerous States in the region, the Gulf Cooperation Council, and the Secretaries-General of the League of Arab States and of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
