Representative Wilson, of the First District of New Mexico, was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1998. She was Director of European Defense Policy and Arms Control at the White House National Security Council from 1989 to 1991 and Secretary of Children, Youth, and Families for the State of New Mexico from 1995 to 1998.
