Representative Bachus, of the Sixth District of Alabama, was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1992. He served in the Alabama Senate from 1983 to 1984 and the Alabama House of Representatives from 1984 to 1987. He is a member of the Financial Services Committee, where he chairs the Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit.
