Senator Schumer was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 1998. He served in the New York Assembly from 1974 to 1980 and in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1980 to 1999. He is the Senate Minority Leader. The following is from an April 24, 2017, statement on the floor of the Senate on the government spending bill. I join the majority leader in welcoming everybody back to the Senate after the two-week recess. We have a lot of business to attend to this week.
