Casey Martin was born with a circulatory ailment called Klippel-Trenaunay-Weber Syndrome, which affects his right leg and causes him pain whenever he walks. Despite this condition, Martin has become an accomplished golfer. He attended Stanford University on a golf scholarship, and his team won the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) National Golf Championship in 1994.In order to play in college tournaments, Martin requested that the NCAA grant him an exception to its rules requiring competitors to walk all 18 holes of a course.
