The Netherlands held the presidency of the European Union from July 1 to December 31, 2004. The Netherlands has been a member of the United Nations since December 10, 1945. Ambassador Hamburger is the Deputy Permanent Representative for the Netherlands and has been acting Permanent Representative to the UN since August 2005.
