Ambassador Sergei Lavrov
Russia is a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. Russian officials brokered a compromise in a 1997 weapons inspection dispute between the United States and Iraq. It joined the UN on October 24, 1945. Sergei Lavrov was appointed UN Ambassador in 1994.
