Conflict in Sudan
On March 16, Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman John Kerry (MA-D) convened a hearing on “Sudan and South Sudan: Independence and Insecurity.” Panelists discussed the current economic and humanitarian situation in the two states and ways to encourage a peaceful end to the current conflict. Less than a year since South Sudan’s independence, the region is wracked by daily violence and an impending famine, as the governments in Juba and Khartoum remain mired in disputes over borders and oil revenues.
