Obesity Report
A report released May 8 by the Institute of Medicine (IOM) of the National Academies determined that the impact of obesity on health, health care costs, and national productivity could be catastrophic if left unchecked. According to a report summary, “The staggering human toll of obesity-related chronic disease and disability, and an annual costs of $190.2 billion for treating obesity-related illness, underscore the urgent need to strengthen prevention efforts in the United States.” The report, Accelerating Progress in Obesity Prevention: Solving the Weight of the Nation, recommended that Congress act, in limited ways, to help promote the changes that are needed…
