In an effort to pull the United States out of its worst recession
since World War II, President Barack Obama on February 17, 2009, signed
into law a $787 billion economic stimulus package called the American
Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Included in the bill is more than $100
billion in spending on infrastructure projects, such as roads, bridges,
and building construction — work intended to spur domestic job growth.
