Senator Levin was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 1978. He was a member of the Detroit City Council from 1969 to 1977, and President of the City Council from 1973 to 1977. He chairs the Armed Services Committee and also sits on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, the Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee, and the Select Committee on Intelligence.
