In September 2007, Susan Galloway and Linda Stephens, two residents of Greece, New York, complained to the local town board that its pre-meeting prayers were endorsing the Christian faith. The exclusively Christian clergy who were giving the invocations were making specific references to Jesus and addressing the audience as though they were all of the same faith. According to the two, town officials told them to leave the room or ignore the prayers.
