In November 2022, a group of abortion opponents led by the Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine filed suit against the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and U.S. government officials, challenging their authorization of the use of the drug mifepristone to terminate a pregnancy. The FDA first approved mifepristone as an abortion drug in 2000. It then expanded its availability with rulings in 2016 and 2021.
