Representative Shays, of the Fourth District of Connecticut, was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1987. He served in the Peace Corps from 1968 to 1970, as an aide to the Mayor of Trumbull, Connecticut, from 1971 to 1972, and as a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives from 1974 to 1987. He is a member of the Budget Committee and the Committee on Government Reform and Oversight.
