Representative Obey, of the Seventh District of Wisconsin, was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1969. He previously served in the Wisconsin Assembly from 1962 to 1969. He is the Ranking Minority Member of the House Appropriations Committee and of the Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services and Education within that committee.
