Senator Stabenow was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2000. She served on the Ingham County (Michigan) Board of Commission from 1974 to 1978 (and as Chair from 1977 to 1978), in the Michigan House of Representatives from 1979 to 1990, and in the Michigan Senate from 1991 to 1994. From 1996 to 2000, she represented Michigan’s Eighth Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives.
