Senator McConnell was first elected to the U.S. Senate in November 1984. He served as judge-executive of Jefferson County, Kentucky, from 1978 to 1985. He has served as Senate Majority Leader since January 2015. He serves on the Appropriations, Agriculture, and Rules Committees.
