Homeland Security Budget Challenged
For the first time since the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) came into existence (in 2002), the White House budget request is lower than that of the previous year. The Obama Administration is seeking $39.5 billion, a slight decrease of 0.5 percent (or $191 million) below the 2012 enacted level. The budget continues strong investments in such core functions as prevention of terrorist attacks, border security, aviation security, disaster preparedness, and cybersecurity.
