In 1995, Brzonkala filed a complaint with the university against the two under the school’s sexual assault policy. No police report was ever filed. The investigating committee found insufficient evidence to punish Crawford, but it suspended Morrison for two semesters. After Morrison appealed the ruling, Virginia Tech reduced and then waived the punishment.
