Botswana has been a member of the UN since October 17, 1966. Charles Thembani Ntwaagae has served as Botswana’s Permanent Representative to the UN since July 2008. The following is excerpted from Ambassador Ntwaagae’s statement during UN General Assembly debate on July 28, 2010. Though we fully recognize the importance of the provision of water and sanitation infrastructure in the context of the Millennium Development Goals, we regret that we were unable support the resolution in its present form. Botswana also regrets that such a vital resolution should have been subjected to a vote instead of being adopted by consensus….
